Two Augusta Prep seniors earn prestigious Stamps scholarships to Georgia Tech, Wake Forest

Augusta Prep seniors Lillian Clapp and Yahan Su have each earned the prestigious Stamps scholarship, a merit-based full scholarship, to Wake Forest University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. This is the first time two Augusta Prep students have been selected as Stamps Scholars in the same graduating year.

"We are exceptionally proud of Lillian and Yahan, who are true scholars personifying Augusta Prep's commitment to excellence, global engagement and service to others," Augusta Prep Director of College Counseling Jonathan Stroud said. "Lillian and Yahan each exemplify the academic, leadership and personal qualities sought in Stamps Scholars."
Lillian is planning to double major at Wake Forest, with a focus on engineering and art history. Wake Forest offers merit-based scholarships to fewer than 3 percent of its first-year students.

From the Wake Forest website: "Stamps Scholars must exemplify leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service, and innovation. They will have achieved unusual distinction in the classroom and beyond. Successful applicants have pursued the most challenging curriculum available to them and have achieved grade point averages and standardized test scores (if submitted) that place them in the top percentage in comparison to their peers. Further, Stamps Scholars have typically been leaders in a variety of extracurricular pursuits and won recognition for their interests at the regional, state, or national level.

The Stamps Scholarship is awarded to about fifteen entering first-year students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, a high degree of intellectual curiosity and scholarship, exceptional promise in leadership, service and social responsibility, perseverance, character, integrity, and innovation. Made possible through benefactor E. Roe Stamps IV and his late wife Penny, and through matching funds from Wake Forest University benefactor Mr. Porter B. Byrum, this scholarship annually covers the cost of tuition, fees, room, and board, and includes a $3,400 allowance for books and personal expenses. Scholars may receive up to $15,000 total over their four undergraduate years for approved travel or study projects."

Yahan, a National Merit Scholarship finalist, is planning to major in chemical engineering at Georgia Tech. As a Stamps President's Scholar, she will receive, according to the Georgia Tech website:

"A full-ride scholarship covering tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meal plan, books and academic supplies, personal expenses, and a stipend during the first year for a laptop.

- $12,000 enrichment funding for pillar-based international experiences, unpaid internships, unpaid research, conferences, etc.

- Mentoring for each cohort by two dedicated professors known as Faculty Guides.

- Annual cohort retreats or events including one outdoor leadership Tech Trek. Trek destinations currently include Alaska, Colorado, and Montana.

- Academic Search for Knowledge (ASK) Expeditions including outdoor adventure and urban study, planned by students and professors. Recent destinations include the Balkans, Argentina, Cyprus, Yosemite/California, and South Africa.

- One-on-one mentoring from professors, program staff, alumni, and current scholars.

- Access to special speakers, employment opportunities, dinners, and receptions.

- The complete Georgia Tech and Atlanta experience. From arts to athletics, music to museums, and technology to theater, Atlanta and Georgia Tech together afford opportunities that can only come when a traditional campus is in the heart of an international city.

- Priority housing during your first year."
