Four Augusta Prep students earn prestigious GIAA Academic-Athlete Award

Four Augusta Prep student-athletes recently received the prestigious Georgia Independent Athletic Association 2024 Morris C. Johnson Academic-Athlete Award. Class of 2024 graduates Fripp McDougal, Hank Monnig, Aine Trapp and Sara Beth Trotter were four of the 10 student-athletes recognized in GIAA Class AA for their hard work in the classroom and in athletics. Augusta Prep had the most award recipients of any school in Georgia. 
To be selected for the Morris C. Johnson Award, students must be either in the top 10 percent of their class or among the top 10 students of their class. The nominee must have a cumulative GPA of at 3.75. The nominee must have lettered at least twice for the sport in which he or she was nominated, with additional weight given to all-region and all-state honors.

McDougal lettered in baseball, basketball, clay target shooting and football during his Augusta Prep career, earning All-State baseball honors his senior year. Monnig lettered in basketball, cross country and track, helping the cross country team win state his freshman and sophomore years while also helping lead the basketball team to a pair of region championships. Trotter lettered in basketball, volleyball and soccer, leading the volleyball team to four consecutive state semifinal appearances, and helping the soccer team win state titles in 2021 and 2022.

Trapp, who signed an offer to run cross country and track and field at the College of Charleston, was a four-time cross country individual state champion who also won the 800, 1600 and 3200 events at the state track meet in April. She also lettered in basketball and soccer, winning soccer state titles in 2021 and 2022. Trapp also won a cross country team championship in 2021.
