Two Augusta Prep seniors earn state academic-athlete awards

Augusta Prep senior Katie Duplantis and Hayes Trapp each were named 2023 Morris C. Johnson GIAA Coaches Association Academic-Athlete Award recipients.
Duplantis and Trapp were two of just nine student-athletes chosen throughout the state in Class AA. To be selected, students must be either in the top 10 percent or top 10 of the class. The nominee must have a cumulative GPA of at 3.75. The nominee must have lettered at least twice for the sport in which he or she was nominated, with additional weight given to all-region and all-state honors.

Duplantis won the region tennis championship the past three seasons. This year, she helped the girls team advance to the state semifinals.

Trapp is a multi-year cross country and track and field state champion. He will run in both sports next school year at the College of William and Mary.
