Augusta Prep senior wins prestigious scholarship

Augusta Prep is proud to announce that senior Kathryn Geoffroy has been designated as a recipient of the merit-based Jefferson Scholarship, a prestigious scholarship worth almost $300,000 offered by the University of Virginia's Jefferson Scholars Foundation. Kathryn interviewed Friday as a finalist from competitors all over the world, learning Monday afternoon she won a scholarship if she chooses to attend Virginia.
According to jeffersonscholars.org, more than 2,100 students from 40 U.S. states and 50 countries were nominated in 2020. Last year, 38 students were selected for a Jefferson Scholarship, which has a total value of $293,000 for out-of-state students.

According to a statement of expectations from the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, "For the guidance of Jefferson Scholars, and in the absence of special circumstances, the Foundation has adopted minimum guidelines for academic performance as follows: During each semester Jefferson Scholars should be enrolled as full-time students and receive a grade point average equal to 3.0. Failure to achieve this level of academic performance during a semester will subject a Scholar's status to review by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation and may jeopardize a Scholar's standing with the Foundation for the ensuing semester for the purposes of the Scholarship.

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation also expects each Scholar to enter actively into the extracurricular life of the University. All Jefferson Scholars are expected to participate in, and contribute to, endeavors outside the academic curriculum. Each Scholar's extracurricular involvement is necessarily a part of the Foundation's regular review of its grants."
