Augusta Prep wins six trophies at regional math competition
Augusta Prep brought home six trophies from the Georgia Southern University regional invitation-only math competition this past Saturday. The competition featured 499 students from the East Central and Southeast regions of Georgia.
According to the Georgia Southern website, "The tournament is designed to recognize students' accomplishments in mathematics, to allow outstanding mathematics students to meet and compete with each other, and to promote public interest in mathematics."
The Augusta Prep varsity team won first place (Sullivan Boni, Priya Sharma, Charlie Dees, Marlowe Weatherred), while the junior varsity team took third (JR Weber, Sophia Morse, Yahan Su, Thomas Lane). Charlie Dees finished second overall in the varsity individual competition.
The Middle School finished second overall (Team 2) (Edwin, Caleb, Sarah, Ayanna) and third (Team 3) (Dason, Nick, Aidan, AD). Ayanna took third place in the individual competition.
"Our math program is doing very well here at Prep. Our math students are really the stars," Augusta Prep Math Department Chair Ryan Kho said. "The students are really motivated to come out here at 6:45 on Saturday morning when they had plays to do and athletics. It's pretty amazing."
