Augusta Prep swim program adds another trophy, performs well at state meet

Augusta Prep’s athletics program added another trophy to the showcase thanks to the performance this past weekend from our swim team.

The girls varsity swim team finished as state runner-up, a tremendous feat for this small squad of swimmers. Senior Amy Riordan, who will be swimming in the fall for the University of South Carolina, won two events: 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle (both new GISA state records). Amy also placed second in the 500 freestyle.

In the girls medley relay, the Augusta Prep team of Mayle Iwanski, Olivia Young, Amy Riordan and Masa Iwanski placed second. Augusta Prep’s team of Olivia Young, Marlowe Weatherred, Mayle Iwanski and Amy Riordan also placed second in the freestyle relay.

Other individual superlatives include: Mayle Iwanski (fifth in the 100 butterfly, seventh in the 50 freestyle) and Olivia Young (sixth in the 200 freestyle).
The boys team, also a very small squad, tied for fourth at state, an impressive finish. Senior Jimmy Riordan placed second in the 100 backstroke, fourth in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

The boys medley relay team of Charlie Dees, Roy Gamble, Chance Ruiz and Jimmy Riordan finished sixth. The boys freestyle relay team of Charlie Dees, Roy Gamble, Chance Ruiz and Jimmy Riordan placed seventh.
