Middle school students naturally question the world around them – and as an independent school, we provide a balanced, holistic curriculum.

The Middle School program at Augusta Prep supports students through the incredible physical, emotional, social, and cognitive changes of the middle school years, and also helps them discover and develop their distinct strengths and talents.

In a lively, friendly, and inviting climate of mutual respect, students are offered challenging academic courses. Delivered in small class sizes, these courses are developed to capture the curiosity and energy of the middle school student. The curriculum is enhanced by offerings in computer, drama, art, music, and daily physical education, where more than 80 percent of students participate. These offerings help create one of the most balanced approaches of any independent school in the area.

Using an interdisciplinary team-teaching approach creates relationships between courses, teachers, and students, and these connections give students the opportunity to see the entire picture. As the head of Augusta Prep’s Middle School, it has been rewarding to see how our students “in the middle” - as I like to say - come to a realization of their individual strengths. Those of us in the middle present classes in various ways to accommodate different learning styles, offering small advisory groups at each grade level.

Starting in the 5th grade, students are carefully guided through the transition from the Lower School setting to the departmentalized structure of the Upper School. Students also experience learning opportunities outside of the classroom: Clubs, philanthropic efforts, athletic options, and community service. All 8th graders also attend a trip to Washington, D.C.

It is our great honor to help guide our students toward a life of learning, leadership, and service as part of one of the best private middle schools in Augusta, Ga. and the CSRA!
