For the class of 2008, it was
their old stomping grounds; however, for the class of 2003, it was the stomping
grounds of their dreams. The Young Alum and PPOPS (Past Parents of Prep
Students) Social held December 21st provided the opportunity for
alumni and former parents to reminisce about their years at Prep and marvel at
the new developments on campus. The
class of 2008 mixed and mingled with each other, as if they had just finished
AP exams...and so did the class of 2003, but in a much different way.
In only a five year span, Augusta
Prep opened the doors of two new facilities, the Hull
Fine Arts
Center and Boardman Athletic
Center. The social,
hosted in Boardman
Athletic Center,
provided the ideal gathering venue, boasting plentiful athletic
accomplishments, made possible by several alums and their teammates who
attended the event. After touring the new athletic facilities, alums ventured
to the Hull Fine Arts Center. The members of the class of 2003 couldn't resist
jumping on McLeod stage and navigating the cat walk into the lighting and sound
production room, making themselves right at home. All alums will have the
opportunity to take advantage of the new facilities as they are invited to take
the stage again in the 2010-2011 School year. In celebration of Prep's 50th
Anniversary there will be an alumni production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
As impressive as the facilities
may be, alumni were most eager to catch up with Prep's outstanding faculty, as
they visited Mr. Dickson's fine arts room, searched the hallways for Mr. Boyd,
and chatted with Mrs. Graser, Mr. Crawford, and Mrs. Shaffer. Although older
alumni may have been in awe of the superb fine arts and athletics facilities,
all past parents and alumni were certainly pleased to see that the tradition of
academic excellence still continues today.
A good time was had by all who
attended. For those unable to attend, fun times with old friends and mentors are
not far away. Prep's 50th Anniversary is coming up in the 2010-2011
Academic Calendar Year. Please save the weekend October 8-10 for Augusta Prep's
50th Anniversary Homecoming.
