Augusta Prep junior, Joseph Glass, son of Nancy Glass of Evans, won an all expense paid tour/study trip to Mexico this summer. Joseph is one of eight students from the United States selected by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese to receive this honor. Joseph was chosen based on several criteria: his score on the 2009 National Spanish Exam in the 99th percentile, an evaluation of his writing skills in a two page essay, an evaluation of his conversational skills in a five minute DVD, as well as his transcript, list of extracurricular activities, and letter of recommendation.
Joseph is an extremely talented and motivated linguist who has mastered the French, German, Spanish and English languages. English is his native language, but this highly self-motivated student wanted to learn more; as a result, he taught himself German at home. Since coming to Augusta Prep, Joseph has taken French through the AP level and is currently studying French Literature and Spanish IV as an independent study. Next year he will continue his language studies at Augusta Prep with AP Spanish and first year Russian. Clearly, Joseph can stand on his own merits, but he is grateful for the support of his teacher, Mrs. Monica Graser, for not only guiding him in Spanish, but also for researching opportunities for competition. Joseph’s future plans include continuing his language studies in college. Have a wonderful summer adventure Joseph. Hard work has great rewards!
