Augusta Prep Pre School Class Learn About Money and Responsiblity
Posted 03/01/2010 01:34PM

The Preschool class has opened a store in their classroom!Giving the Butterfly dollar to the cashier

The Preschool students understand they have ongoing responsibilities as students and friends. To help them in this process Mrs. Thomas, Preschool Teacher,  has opened a store stocked with small toys donated by the parents.

Each student has a duty for the day which encourages age appropriate responsibility, teamwork, and provides a tangible reward for "work." Once they receive their Butterfly dollar, they can choose to save it in the class wallet or spend it on a one dollar item. This process is priceless to watch as they learn to identify a dollar sign, review number recognition, count and exchange Butterfly money, and eagerly ask what their duty will be the next day to earn more buying power.

Each day the students may earn one Butterfly Dollar for fulfilling the assigned duty of the day on the helper chart.

Some classroom duties are:

  • Water plants
  • Line leader
  • Caboose
  • Table wipers
  • Trash patrols
  • Time keepers
  • Store Cashier
  • Chair Helpers
  • Teacher Helpers
